It has high air permeability, almost all connected pores, large specific surface area of pores, and small bulk density of materials.
Metal foam is used in the manufacture of purification, filtration, catalytic supports, electrodes and other devices in petrochemical, aerospace, and environmental protection.
Compared with the general sintered porous metal, the metal material containing foam pores has a higher porosity and a larger pore size, which can reach 7 mm. Since metal foam is a two-phase composite material composed of a metal matrix skeleton continuous phase and a pore dispersed phase or continuous phase, its properties depend on the metal matrix used, porosity and pore structure, and are affected by the preparation process. Generally, the mechanical properties of metal foam decrease with the increase of porosity, and its electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity also decrease exponentially. When the metal foam is under pressure, due to the increased force area and the material strain hardening effect caused by the collapse of the pores, the metal foam has excellent impact energy absorption characteristics.
